Alpacas in the Community
Care Home Visits
We understand the effect that our alpacas have on people visiting the farm and we know that not everyone is able to access them. We work hard to offer a wellbeing service within the community by offering care home, hospice and community visits with our therapy alpacas.
Our visits usually include the following but please contact us to discuss your individual requirements:
Two alpacas to care home/hospice
One hour therapeutic visit indoor or outdoor
Public liability insurance & trailer hire
What to expect
Where possible, bring residents into the larger communal rooms where will walk our alpacas for a meet and greet. If you would like to prepare some carrots (cut into batons) please feel free and we will bring some ourselves.
Alpacas shouldn't go to the toilet indoors, however, they are animals and certainly have their own minds. We do try to read their body language before this happens!
Alpacas can travel in a lift up to resident rooms if needed. Please let us know in advance if you can so can make sure we bring our 'lift friendly' alpacas.
We may need outside access for 'alpaca breaks' if we think they are becoming stressed or agitated. We will also gauge this throughout and may cut the visit short in order to maintain animal welfare standards.
Please note we are not able to take our alpacas into schools or to large community events or galas as they find this quite stressful. We limit the number of outings to one per month where possible to ensure their welfare is mainatined.
